The hunt is on in San Bernardino, California for at least three probable suspects.
At 11am today bullets erupted inside a conference room of the Inland Regional Center, killing 14 people and injuring at least 17. Shortly after the shooting, the suspects sped away in a black SUV.
According to NBC News, the police pursued the black SUV four and half hours later. NBC News writers report, “About 4½ hours later, multiple police cars were involved in a high-speed chase nearby with three people in a dark truck or SUV.” Police have since arrested one of the suspects; however, it is reported that one or more of the gunmen are still at large.
Police say the motive behind the shooting is unclear, but was strategically planned. “These people came prepared to do what they did as if they were on a mission,” San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said. “They were armed with long guns, not with handguns.”
Police are currently patrolling the area. Schools and local businesses have since been closed in order to secure the perimeter.
NBC News states, “It appeared to be the worst mass shooting since the December 2012 slaughter of 20 first-graders and six staffers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.”
