The media is having a field day with Missouri GOP representative, Todd Akin. His rape comment has put him as well as his campaign team in hot water. During a taping of The Jaco Report on FOX 2, the candidate was asked if abortion should be allowed in the case of rape. His notorious response was this, “It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors…If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down” (Davis, USATODAY). As soon as his response was broadcast, he went from being a locally known GOP representative to one of the top googled names. He took to Twitter and Facebook later that day and apologized for his comment. He also publicly apologized on Fox News and told the anchor, “I believe we can win this thing”, and continued to say that there was still, “tremendous outpouring of support”(Fox News). Akin has refused to back out of the race and Sunday was the last day he could withdraw without penalty. All I can say is good luck Missouri. I have a feeling Missouri as well as the rest of the nation will be hearing more ignorant comments from this representative.
